Discover Scuba Diving

Or, maybe you’re thinking of taking up diving but your just not sure if it’s the thing for you? If so, then the Discover Scuba Diving Course facilitated by Go Dive Mossel Bay, is just what your looking for!

Overview of Discover Scuba Dive Course:

  • Duration: Between 1-5 hours depending on the option you choose
  • You have the option of doing it in a swimming pool or in the ocean on a training dive site in Mossel Bay (Dollose/Santos)
  • Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, towel and a snack
  • You must be at least 10 Years old
 

Open Water Scuba Diver

Want to become a certified scuba diver? Begin your underwater explorations by enrolling in a NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver course. This entry-level certification is recognized internationally and will teach you the fundamental knowledge and skills to safely dive in open water. The NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver course is the foundation for all other scuba courses. This is your starting point!

This certification will allow you to dive independently with a certified buddy, to the depth of 18 meters (60 ft).

During your NAUI Open Water class, you will learn about modern dive equipment, diving sciences, responsible diving practices and the environment. The first part of this course will include videos about diving and the ocean. Then we will take you to the pool to give you a taste of what it is like to breathe underwater! When you are ready, we progress to the real adventure, diving in the ocean! Mossel Bay is famous for its temperate climate and beautiful marine life- the perfect place to start your dive career.

This course is directed by our award winning NAUI Instructor, Elton Polly. Individuals ages 15+ and in good physical condition may enroll in a NAUI Open Water course.

Overview of Course Structure

  • Duration: 3-4 days (weather dependent)
  • Day 1: DVD & Theory of Diving
  • Day 2: Scuba diving sessions in our heated indoor pool to build confident divers
  • Day 3 & 4: Four open water dives on our training reefs (Dolasse/Santos)
  • You have the option of watching the scuba diving DVD and doing the course theory as a self-study in the comfort of your own home, or in our classroom. It’s your choice. There is also an e-learning option.
  • Your diving course can be constructed around your schedule. You do not need to do the course in 4 consecutive days!
  • Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, towel, and a snack.
  • Minimum Age: 15 years old

NAUI OPEN WATER SCUBA DIVER COURSE OUTLINE

The NAUI Open Water Diver Course will normally take you 3 to 4 days. These days do not need to be done consecutively – we can adjust the course to suit your schedule!

Daily dive course schedule:

We will begin the course by meeting with you to do the registration paperwork, theory work, and kit you out with the scuba dive equipment that you will need for your course. 

Course Day 1 – Scuba Diving Theory

Traditional Course Option:

  • A DVD to watch (+- 3 hours long). You can choose to watch this DVD in the comfort of your home, or in a classroom setting.
  • After each section your instructor will ask you a few questions to make sure that you understand what you saw in the DVD. This is also a great opportunity to ask your instructor any questions that you might have about the theory.
  • A course theory exam.

E-Learning Course Option:

This is a great way to get your scuba diving theory done if you are pressed for time, or do not want to spend too much time on your holiday watching videos in a classroom setting. With NAUI e-learning, you can do all of your course theory in the comfort of your home, long before your holiday even starts!

Course day 2 – Pool sessions

By now you know the theory behind scuba diving, so on this day we take you to the pool to teach you how the equipment works, and to practice your scuba diving skills before we start your ocean training. The pool offers a relaxed environment to build confident divers.

Course Day 3 & 4 – Ocean Dives

Finally! It’s time to start exploring the sea. We now take you diving in the ocean, where you get to practice your skills that you perfected in the pool. We do four dives altogether, after which you are a certified NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver!

This course is constructed in such a way as to teach you diving in a safe and exciting way. You can be rest assured that, as a NAUI open water diver, your certification will be recognized anywhere you might go in the world.

 

Refresher Scuba

Are you a certified scuba diver but you haven’t dived for a while?  You might have forgotten some of the important aspects of scuba diving. Don’t worry, Go Dive Mossel Bay is here to help. The NAUI Refresher course has been specifically designed with you in mind.

  • Duration: Roughly 4-5 hours
  • Review theory and then scuba dive in the pool
  • Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, towel and a snack.
  • You must be a certified scuba diver to do this course

NAUI REFRESHER SCUBA DIVING COURSE OUTLINE

Remember, this course is specifically designed to meet your needs, whether you need a quick reminder on one basic scuba skill or all of them!

Course Schedule

We will first meet with you and discuss what you are expecting to get out of the course. Are you planning a scuba holiday? Do you want to advance your dive career? Whatever the need, we will take it step by step. Next stop- our heated indoor swimming pool!

Theory

The first thing we do is to have a quick look at your theory again. This is mostly done in the form of a quiz. There is also time for questions and answers before we actually go scuba diving! Next, we will kit up and remind you of how all of your equipment works.

Pool Dive

Once we are finished with your theory and kit up, we get into the swimming pool. Here we go through the same skills that you did in your Open Water Scuba Diver training. You will be surprised how easily it all comes back to you! Remember: safety is key when scuba diving! If there is any particular skill that you feel you would like some extra help with, we would be happy to spend as much time as you need on this skill.

Optional Mossel Bay Ocean Dive

Back to the real deal – diving in the ocean! This portion of the day is optional but is the most fun part for most of our refresher students.  You now have the option to choose one of our many fun dives to try out your newly refreshed skills.

Advanced Scuba Diver

You’ve done your NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver course and you obviously loved it. Go deeper into this adventure by doing your NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver course! This course, offered by Go Dive Mossel Bay, is custom made for the adventurous scuba diver in you.

Explore new dive sites and undertake exclusive activities under the supervision of NAUI Instructor, Elton Polly. This course allows individuals to learn about specialties and diving activities of particular interest. Your confidence and skill as a diver will increase while you experience the excitement of learning more about the underwater world.

The NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver Certification is awarded for doing 6 “Adventure” scuba dives, of which one needs to deeper than 18 meters and another needs to be an Underwater Navigation dive.

Overview of Course Structure:

  • Review the Advanced Scuba Diver Theory and then dive into the ocean in Mossel Bay
  • You must have your NAUI Open Water certification or equivalent to do this scuba course
  • Duration: 6 dives (minimum 2 days)
  • Certification allows you to go up to 40 meters deep.
  • Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, towel and a snack.

NAUI ADVANCED SCUBA DIVER COURSE OUTLINE

Course Schedule

We will begin the course by meeting with you to do the registration paperwork, give you your e-learning codes for theory work, and kit you out with the scuba diving equipment that you will need for your course. We will then give you a 30-minute refresher presentation on the following:

  1. Dive Planning
  2. Buddy Checks
  3. Golden Rules of Scuba
  4. Equipment Assembly

Course Theory

E-learning Access Codes will be given for Advanced Scuba Diver theory work. With NAUI e-learning, you can do all of your course theory in the comfort of your home, long before your holiday even starts! After each section, there will be a short quiz to review what you’ve learned. The Advanced Scuba Diver Theory Exam will take place at the end of the course work. 

Course Ocean Dives

When you do your Advanced Scuba Diver course with Go Dive Mossel Bay, you have to do 6 “adventure” dives. This is usually done over 2 to 3 days, but these days do not need to be consecutively and are strictly weather dependent.

The following six dives are REQUIRED as part of this course:

  • Navigation
  • Night
  • Deep (40 meters/130 feet maximum depth)
  • Search & Recovery
  • Boat Elective

  • Exploration & Underwater Mapping
  • Low Visibility
  • Shark Diver
  • Underwater Photography
  • Peak Performance Buoyancy
  • Diving in surf or currents Using Dive Computers

Rescue Scuba Course

This is where you learn to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies. This course allows you to grow into a confident, independent diver. Up until this point you have learned all the skills necessary to look after yourself. Now it is time for you to learn how to look after your diving buddies.

Although scuba diving is a safe and fun activity, it is always nice to know that in the event of an emergency, there is someone in your dive group that has the necessary rescue skills.

The NAUI Rescue Scuba Diver course is for certified divers who desire additional training or orientation to a variety of diving sites and conditions. Divers must be a minimum of 15 years of age to enroll in a NAUI Rescue Scuba Diver course or 17 years of age to enroll in the NAUI Advanced Rescue Scuba Diver course. All participants must be in good health and be previously certified as a NAUI Scuba Diver or equivalent.

Overview of Course Structure:

  • Duration: 2 Days
  • 2-3 dives
  • Day 1: Theory & snorkeling skills in the ocean
  • Day 2: Theory & 2 ocean dives 
  • Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, towel and a snack.

NAUI RESCUE DIVER COURSE OUTLINE

Schedule

This course takes place over 2 days, which can be split up or done consecutively. We will begin the course by meeting with you to do the registration paperwork, give you your e-learning codes for theory work, and kit you out with the scuba diving equipment that you will need for your course.

Course Theory: E-learning Code

Day 1: Theory and ocean snorkel session.

Here we will test your swimming skills. Most rescues are easier when you know the proper swimming techniques.

Day 2: Theory and ocean dive sessions.

We will discuss the techniques you have learned in your Rescue Diver E-Learning before taking you to the ocean. In the ocean you will practice these new skills to perfection. Here you will learn how to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies, how to assist and transport divers, and how to perform surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore-based skin and scuba divers.

Enriched Air Diver

This course is completely online based. We do not offer Nitrox diving, but we will teach you the theory behind it that will be enough to satisfy your certification.

Learn how to safely use enriched air and extend your bottom time! In this course you will learn what enriched air is, and how it allows you to go deeper and stay underwater longer.
