For those who need water to breathe

Preparing for the 2026 Sardine Run, there’s a certain kind of excitement that starts building long before the first bait ball is spotted. For most people, the Sardine Run begins the moment they hit the water. For us as operators, it starts weeks—sometimes months—earlier.

Right now, it’s all about preparation.

The boats are being worked on, checked, and checked again. Every bolt tightened, every system tested, every small imperfection dealt with before it has a chance to become a big problem. Our semi-rigid boats are more than just vessels—they’re our lifeline out there. When we launch in places like Cintsa, we need absolute confidence in our equipment. There’s no room for “it should be fine.” It has to be right.

Then comes the gear.

Regs, cylinders, compressors, safety equipment, spares—it all gets packed, sorted, and packed again. Tools for every situation you can imagine (and plenty you hope you’ll never face) are loaded. Because the reality is simple: a day off the water isn’t just inconvenient—it’s a missed opportunity. When the ocean comes alive, you need to be ready. There are no second chances with something like this.

And so we prepare for everything.

Spare parts for engines. Backup systems. Redundancies on redundancies. You learn over the years that it’s not about expecting things to go wrong—it’s about making sure that when they do, you’re ready. Out there, problem-solving isn’t optional. It’s part of the job.

But even with all the planning, there are things you can’t control.

You find yourself constantly thinking about the variables.
What will the weather do this season?
Will the launches be clean and safe?
Will the sardines arrive on time?
And when they do—what will they bring with them?

Because that’s the magic of it.

Some years it’s dolphins in their hundreds, herding bait balls into tight, shimmering spheres. Other years, sharks dominate the action. Then there are those unforgettable days when everything comes together—gannets raining from the sky, whales moving through the chaos, the ocean erupting with life in every direction.

It’s unpredictable. It’s raw. It’s real.

And that’s why we do all of this.

Preparing for the 2026 Sardine Run, every hour spent preparing, every checklist, every carefully packed tool and spare part—it’s all for one thing: giving our clients the best possible chance to experience this phenomenon at its absolute peak.

When it works, when everything aligns, there’s nothing else like it on Earth.

All we can do is be ready.

The rest is up to Mother Nature. 🌊
